My First NYC Fashion Week Event!

A life-long wish! I attended my first (and hopefully not last) NY Fashion Week runway show this year - Malan Breton's Fall 2007 collection.

Here
are some photos of the event with descriptions of most of the garments. And here is a short video of the collection finale!

Too much fun!

Chloe Dao Meet and Greet

Chloe Dao and her mom, in town for the Smithsonian Institution’s “Exit Saigon, Enter Little Saigon: Vietnamese America Since 1975” exhibit, spent 90 minutes chatting with about 30 fans, local boutique owners, members of the DC Fashionista group, several teen designers, etc. An eclectic group, for certain, but it made for an incredibly interesting evening jumping from topic to topic! Click here to view photos of the event! Bottom line - organizing the event in two days was an adventure and Chloe rocks!

The whole evening was captured on "Blogging Project Runway" (scroll down to the January 23rd posts). Enjoy!

Welcome to Capital Sew and Sew

Welcome to Capital Sew and Sew - a site devoted to nurturing the next generation of sewers, knitter and crocheters - or to re-engage those who have stitched in the past and want to start again.

Starting January 2007 I will host an open studio once a month for young and old, experienced and novice to come and learn or teach about sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and more! We will create garments and other handmade objects - together.

Email me if you or your kids are interested in joining us!

Hug Me Teddy Bears

Hug Me Teddy Bears...

Here is a photo of a whole bunch of 'Hug Me' Teddy Bears that a sewing group in New York City made for an orphanage in Romania. I love the simplicity, the bright colors and the quirky faces! They are incredibly easy to make and take but scraps of fabric! A few minutes of our time = a huge deal for child.....
