was sewing ever non-hip? Some of us have quietly been getting on with sewing for years....the new young things think they have invented it!!!! Great to have you all in the fold!!!!
I recently purchased an older used Singer from the retired dealer in town, he said he hasn't sold a machine to a young woman in years. Am I really a novilty, I didn't think so. I've been sewing since I was a child and now do so for my three young children. There is such satisfaction in making things with your hands. Cheers to all the sewers in the world!!
Welcome to Capitol Sew and Sew - a site devoted to nurturing the next generation of sewers, knitters and crocheters - or to re-engage those who have stitched in the past and want to start again.
Visit DC Threads, founded in 2008 to help keep the art of sewing & stitch crafts alive and well in the District of Columbia. The DC Threads website and the monthly sewing lounge offer resources for local sewing enthusiasts to learn more about their craft and share skills with others. Our mission is to find opportunities and places for young and old, experienced and novice to learn and/or teach about sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and more! Create garments and other handmade objects - together.
'Stitching for Change'is a program for stitchers, young and old, interested in using sewing and stitching for change – personally, locally, globally. We will gather to create garments and objects for ourselves while stitching for others in need of assistance and affection. Check out the "Project Info and Links" below for examples of some of the projects we will work on this year. If you have other ideas please, please send them our way.
